Kolkata, July 22 (Click Hind): Over the years, the image of dark skies, light to moderate rainfall, and long lines of people under umbrellas has become synonymous with Trinamool Congress’s annual July 21 gathering. However, this year stood in stark contrast — not a single drop of rain fell, and the city experienced intense heat instead. The unusual weather sparked widespread discussion, and party supremo Mamata Banerjee addressed the issue directly from the stage.
Speaking at Monday’s rally, Mamata said, “Do you know why it didn’t rain this year? A new game has begun. This time, it won’t be tears from the eyes — it will be fire.”
Last year, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee had delivered his speech while soaked in rain. Although the rainfall had eased by the time Mamata took the stage, she still got drenched. At the time, she had described the rain as a divine blessing.
“It’s the monsoon, the month of Shravan — we always get soaked. You may call it a blessing, or the tears of martyrs. This rain is symbolic — no one can live without water. Water is life. Rain on July 21 signals that 2024 will be the year of creation. A new India will be born,” Mamata had said during last year’s rally.
With the Lok Sabha elections now behind them and TMC having performed strongly, the focus has shifted to next year’s West Bengal Assembly elections. From the July 21 stage, Mamata Banerjee sounded the bugle for the upcoming battle, rallying her party workers with a strong message.
“This time, we must bowl them out. Hit them for a six!” she declared, energizing the crowd and clearly indicating that preparations for the next electoral fight have already begun.
