Rohit Sharma recreated his cricketing roots to propose to Ritika on the pitch where it all began.

During a recent appearance on Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra’s talk show, Rohit Sharma opened up about the heartwarming journey of his relationship with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh — from their first meeting to his unforgettable proposal. The couple first met in 2008 through professional circles, as Ritika was a sports manager at the time. What began as a strictly professional relationship slowly blossomed into a close friendship. By 2013, Rohit admitted that both he and Ritika began realizing their feelings for each other ran deeper, something their friends had sensed even before they did.

Ritika would often bring him home-cooked meals while he was on cricket tours, knowing he disliked hotel food — a gesture that cemented their growing connection. Recalling the day he proposed, Rohit shared that he took Ritika on a nostalgic drive through Marine Drive, Dadar, Bandra, and Worli, under the pretense of getting ice cream. Eventually, he drove her to the cricket ground in Borivali where his career began — a place close to his heart.

It was dark when they arrived, but Rohit had coordinated with friends in advance to light up the moment. With cameras secretly rolling, he walked Ritika to the middle of the pitch, got down on one knee, and proposed — a scene he described as something straight out of a movie. The emotional proposal marked a new chapter in their lives, built on shared history, love, and mutual respect. Off the field, Rohit’s personal life continues to inspire fans, while on the field, both he and Virat Kohli are expected to return to the Indian ODI squad in August 2025 for the Bangladesh series. If that series is postponed or canceled, their comeback could take place in October during India’s home series against Australia. With India expected to play just 15 ODIs annually leading up to the 2027 World Cup, both veterans will need to maintain peak fitness and form to remain central to India’s ODI plans, making every match crucial for their continued legacy.
